Constructive algebraic integration theory

For a long time people have been trying to develop probability theory starting from ‘finite’ events rather than collections of infinite events. In this way one can find natural replacements for measurable sets and integrable functions, but measurable functions seemed to be more difficult. We present a solution. Moreover, our results are constructive (in the sense of Bishop).

Algebraic Integration Theory

1. Introduction. Although the theory of the abstract Lebesgue integral has strong intrinsic architectural articulation, the very importance of the theory for a variety of mathematical applications has tended to cloud its basic simplicity and elegance. The large number of approaches and formalisms, each justified by its appropriate-ness in connection with particular applications, has given the t...

Towards an algebraic theory of information integration

Information integration systems provide uniform interfaces to varieties of heterogeneous information sources. For query answering in such systems, the current generation of query answering algorithms in local-as-view (source-centric) information integration systems all produce what has been thought of as ”the best obtainable” answer, given the circumstances that the sourcecentric approach intro...

Constructive algebraic integration theory without choice

We present a constructive algebraic integration theory. The theory is constructive in the sense of Bishop, however we avoid the axiom of countable, or dependent, choice. Thus our results can be interpreted in any topos. Since we avoid impredicative methods the results may also be interpreted in Martin-L type theory or in a predicative topos in the sense of Moerdijk and Palmgren. We outline how ...

Integration of algebraic functions

We show how the \rational" approach for integrating algebraic functions can be extended to handle elementary functions. The resulting algorithm is a practical decision procedure for determining whether a given elementary function has an elementary antiderivative, and for computing it if it exists.
